Tough times on the Peninsula! (Yeah!)

Underground parking at WalMart
Mercedes and BMW's seeking refuge from the rain...
Flanking my VW! lol

I thought it is sooooooo telling of our times.
Us, whom attend Social Justice Film Festivals, while having taken some time, have broken down and shop at our local (albeit, the largest in Canada, as an affluent peninsula should have lol) the largest store of its kind in the country.
And, I might add, not a retail box either.... no siree, we made them fit into the architectural design of the shopping complex...
Now, that's power!

The Twisted "Art" Scene of White Rock

Lately, I often wonder, when I venture forth with excitement to meet the immediate world around me, with an open heart and mind, what kind of twisted mentality lurks around in it that, instead of finding the same, I find an obtrusive wall. Not just a plain wall, but one full of rut and dark putrid corners, harboring, emitting venomous fumes; the kind that are completely colorless and odorless - the sort that brings on the urge to flee with overwhelmingly nausea, in total bewilderment.
This has been the consistent feeling/understanding for the past three years in anything relating to the Arts Community.
There is no consolation in finding more and more individuals with the same experience...
I am sick and tired of all this being the acceptable norm!

After almost 30 years of community involvement in various capacities through work and volunteering, dealing with hundreds  and hundreds of people thoroughout, I have never, ever, encountered even a brief period of time when this kind of indecency ran rampant.

Of course, where there are people, there are opinions, differences, conflicts, friendships, love affairs. Life happens, tumbles, revolves, evolves, everybody moves forward/sideways, one way or the other, willingly or grudgingly - giving/leaving room for one another to breathe...
NOT HERE.
This is absolutely unacceptable.

PS.:Commercial galleries are completely excluded from from these shenanigans (I think!)
Among these lowly behaviours: the "casual bullying" by mere silent presence, not acknowledging. No eye contact, not even accidentally, to allow a nod... But there, showing up/showing "strong", brushing "accidentally against" me, yet remaining "in contact" in an empty room - while I am busy talking with a third party...
Walking up to me and with a full mouth, (full body) two inches from your face "demanding" I respond to her insolent question/comment.
Removal of my Exhibit posters from secure indoor location.
Willful damage of my merchandise at gift shop.
Willful manipulation of my Terra Talisman labels to hide origin/authorship of piece, within the gallery showcase!
Use of 2-3 year blog name, for newly created artist website... (just like that!!!)
And, what is most insidious and disgusting of all, is the "backroom" malicious gossip that, at this point must be so out of hand that, people I have never seen nor crossed paths with, already have an opinion of me!

These aren't accidents. This is a systematic, calculated, malicious harassment that began in August 2007.
I already said this: I will not ask anyone for "permission" to do what I want and need to do.
Sat. Sep. 18/2010
I am already getting over this last incident.
All I will add is that, the Universe in its wisdom will get you (and all), sooner, or later.

The wonder of an onion!

Seriously, it never occurred to me that a simple thing like a sliced in half onion would cause such a stir among fb friends, and their friends... and....
So, I don't feel alone any more!!!
I used to think I was the only nut reveling in the beauty of a Spanish Onion while slicing it for salads or else. Not so!
As it happens, the onion, and other vegetables have a great lot of secret admirers.

A few of the samples posted on my fb page, please do visit my album, your secret will be safe!

CHEAP, CHEAP, CHEAP !!!!

Cheap Art?
What kind of bullshit is it?

It is getting worst and worst with the proliferation of uninspired untalented wanna-be's.

Not only serious art is being undermined by interior designers creating "art" pieces with rollers as if painting a wall.
Then, we have the "starving"...
Now, I get to learn about the "Cheap" ones - announcing proudly their "quick" wares for $200.00 (a blooming rip-off if you ask me, specially while suggesting to buy Art instead of cocaine - WOW!)
And, there are those that sell their "original art" jokes for $10 bucks.

SOMEBODY, tell them to get lost.
I'll do it myself.
GET LOST: petty thieves and criminals.

How is Art going to regain and maintain any credibility when these clowns are flogging their crap - passing it for art...
I am horrified and utterly disgusted, with both the so-called artist and the buyers that fancy themselves clever.
Cubans have a great expression to describe the above bunch - I am afraid I can repeat it on line.

TOURING MEXICO, APRIL IN CANCUN

Mexico City: March 9
Some photos of AvisArte 2010 Opening Reception,
Lottery Draw and Musical program...

(Love my allocated caption...)
"My voice that faces shame and rupture"

Benjamín González Roaro, Director General de la Lotería Nacional, Mayra Galindo Leal, Directora General de la Asociación Mexicana de Lucha contra el Cáncer, Arturo Guel Pañola, Oncólogo Médico, Roberto Guizar Díaz, Presidente Ejecutivo de la Asociación Mexicana de Lucha contra el Cáncer y de ladito Alejandro Mohar Betancourt, Director General del Instituto Nacional de Cancerología.

Every year the Sociedad Mexicana de Lucha Contra el Cancer,
holds a fundraising and informational Exhibit.
This year being its 50th anniversary,
the Loteria Nacional commemorated the occasion
with a month long draw, that began on March 9.
This anniversary also coincided with the international
Colon-Rectal Cancer Awareness month and thus...
I share in the process with "Intermezzo Giocoso"
(May I add, in very good company, and rather proudly...,
while also "Two Places at the Same Time)

While Parking fees are once again to rise in White Rock...

and, another uptown business closes its doors
to move north of the "divide",
the Mayor of Surrey announces,
a couple of other nearby areas set for commercial development....

US?
zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz
Or,
Painting "the rock" over, and over, and over, and over....

Of course, I am absolutely not going to mention - in a million years - that we, "the Art types" are yet to hear back a peep from the Cultural Committee that invited us for the November 7.09 meeting.
Don't bother calling again. Not me, anyway.
You have burned all the bridges!
Or, was THAT the plan...?
Get the ideas, see what you can appropriate, what you can maneuver and dodge, and the hell with the arts community and their wise input?

You don't even manage to live up to the "parochial" concept... yaay

(Colorado Springs is larger than we are, their City Council is volunteer - would you be a councillor if that would be the case?

AvisArte 2010 Exhibition, Mexico City

March 9 - 30
Foyer, Loteria Nacional de Mexico,
Avenida Juarez 101, Mexico, DF

"Intermezzo Giocoso" ©

In celebration of the 50
th Anniversary of the Mexican Cancer Society and in conjunction with the World Colon-Rectal Cancer Awareness month, and special commemorative draws from the National Lottery of Mexico during the month.
I am very pleased to be part of what is (also, more importantly) an educational/awareness campaign. Often times we don't manage to talk openly about life's important matters. This is one of them.

* While the original work is still taking part of the Itinerant Exhibit "Contemporary International Art II" in Argentina, the image has been reproduced and placed vertically by AvisArt, with all due permission.

"ARTIST GOES GLOBAL": YES!

Pinch me!

I will admit that reading the headline was motive for reflection...
The feeling is somewhat surreal at the moment - although, there have been "various moments" like that, of utter surprise, disbelief and, of secretly fearing there has been an awful mistake and the invitation email was meant for someone else...!
Perhaps, this is due to the local energy or life "contretemps" that have so often rained upon me.
One thing I know for sure, that without my work, life would hardly be bearable.

Petit Tour de Force - Apple store/Pacific Centre, Coffee @ the Hundson's Bay... and the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics Touch

An installation with no name/title plaque-nothing (!!!) between Pacific Centre and The Four Season's Hotel(did not bother with another nearby interesting sculpture because of no name/title plaque-nothing!!!

Granville looking southwest...

Granville looking northeast-ish?

Dogs in stores - we are finally "civilized" (maybe?)

People were made to line up outside, on Seymour Street, to enter the store its Olympic shop - for "security reasons". Either The Bay had serious threats or, they are cashing in big time... They were actually limiting the number of shoppers in the olympic shop - while inconveniencing the rest of us!

While one could shoot a cannon anywhere else in the building... having us actually make an effort to enter the store - it is the most absurd situation, ever.

On the 6th floor, The Seymour Room, the same,
just a handful of us by the windows...

It is normally a quiet place, but, with all sorts of people milling around.
My "tour de force"... can't miss stepping into the Hudson's Bay ever since I arrived in Canada in 1969... Started in Calgary and continued the "tradition" in Vancouver.

A 2010 Olympics Moment - Preparations in White Rock

YES! The symbolic "White Rock" in front of City Hall
is now RED!
NO, you are not hallucinating...

In photos, Mayor, standing with
local paper's (darling) fotog, waiting for paint to dry
and, local (resident?) artist.

"Believe" is the slogan
for this 2010 Vancouver Olympics.

"I believe" they are all insanely out of control!
When personal and, societal values are askew, it is very difficult to assess what are indeed true priorities and morally correct choices for the good of an entire community; choices that have been terribly miscalculated in the name of the event - quiet unfortunately athletes are used/entangled in this mindless/conscienceless, albeit highly planned and sophisticated affair.
