I am using an Olympus Camedia C-370 Zoom that is 3.2 Megapixel. It's Ok, but it doesn't adjust well when you get up close, like the pictures that you have taken here.
The "crisping effect" you asked about I think is a result of a program that I use through Google called Picasa--it's free, and it lets you do some fixes on your photos, including sharpening them up, just in case you'd like to try it (but your photos look great, no need for that kind of work). ;-)
Again slskenyon, thanks! (But, did you see hers? - http://www.073683.blogspot.com)
I find that I manage that sharpness naturally in some cases, in others I cannot even "engineer" it. I got Picasa - haven't figured out how to use it yet!? hwwew... I know, it is probably "stupid-proof".
Compared to Maji's (above)these are "flat" hers do appear three dimensional. She must have a larger digital with specialty lenses...our only method of communication (common language) is through images - will never find out.)
