Do you use them as clocks over there ? Where you see how many blows it takes for all the seeds to fly off , and that's what time it is ?

Why O why do we kill off dandelions in our lawns? They're MUCH prettier than grass. Same with clover. Why aren't we all growing clover and dandelion lawns? They look great, and don't need mowing.

martyn - I have no idea, but that does not answer your question, I did not grow up here and I haven't noticed, then again we have been systematically killing them off, maybe children in the country do...?
I will make a "scientific test" myself next time out and check the time... should be fun.

(On my way back from the beach on Saturday I saw (to my astonishment) a family picnicking as some sort of celebration - they had a battery operated bubble-blowing machine! Their young child was running around mindlessly like a little dodo, without a "job" to keep him occupied and stimulated at the same time.
So, no dandelion and no bubble blowing anymore - how sad is that?)

Ian - it is almost embarrassing... I looove clover too, stopped short day before yesterday from photographing a low, ground cover white bloom one growing between some rocks at a street island and, there is a fabulously healthy little family of purple/blue flower ones on my way to the bank – hovered over them admiring, felt quiet self-conscious about going any further as I mentioned … the “obsession” thing…
Among them, a lone thistle about to bloom.
I feel I got "enough encouragement" just knowing I am not alone in this... :)

Angel D,
the next step for that family would be to get a battery operated child....

I don't know how it is in Britsland, but here, there seems to be a new "hybrid species" (robotic-android) developing that "functions" by some un-deciphered mechanism …

Hey! I remember these things when I was a kid. They were so much fun! I loved blowing on them and watching the little white seeds flying away.
